Collection consists of two diaries, one for 1863 and the other for 1866, (both leather bound, four and seven-eighths inches by three and one eighth inches and one-half of an inch thick). The 1863 diary has 180 pages and 365 entries, as well as notes and cash accounts. The 1866 diary has 182 pages and 365 entries, as well as notes and cash accounts.

Dr. Edward Ford, of Binghamton, New York, was a hospital surgeon in the Army. He performed these duties in Army hospitals at New Albany, Indiana, St. Louis, Missouri, Nashville, Tenn., and other locations. He served as a Major and Surgeon in the 101st United States Colored Infantry. Dr. Ford traveled extensively through New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
